Built circa 1300 the Moulin part of the house still has the working
mechanism of the former mill in the ground floor sitting room, above this
are three ensuite bedrooms, the one on the second floor is more than
30metres square and has a double and 2 single beds so making a very good
family room.
The other part of the house which was a former Manoir constructed in the
16th century now has a large kitchen/ dining room with an inglenook
fireplace and bread oven, this room opens onto the courtyard a lovely
place to eat at our big table in the summer.
Upstairs is a small sitting room, which is full of books and has a couple
of comfortable sofas. Above this are 2 more bedrooms also ensuite.
The whole house has been furnished to a very good standard with new
bathrooms and comfortable beds. There is more than enough crockery,
cutlery and cooking utensils. The kitchen is equipped with a new
dishwasher, large range cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, food blender
etc. There is satellite TV and a CD player
Outside is a very large garden of about 7 acres with plenty of mature
trees with numerous small streams, a waterfall an ornamental lake and
the original mill pond as well as a Heated Swimming Pool. Complete with
loungers.
It is a
great place for children to play, but obviously care must be taken because
there is so much water.
There are a
couple of small boats on the lake and a table tennis table and boules in
the garden.
Le Moulin du Lac is situated just 3 km from the centre of the medieval
town of
Loches
Loches has a twice weekly market and numerous bars and cafes as well as a
12th century chateau and dungeon. There are all sorts of special events
taking place during the season and information about these can be obtained
from the helpful tourist office.
The whole area is very rich in history and there are dozens of wonderful
chateau to visit as well as numerous vineyards where it is possible to
taste and buy the local wines.
Loches has 3 good supermarkets also tennis courts, Quad biking,
micro lighting, horse Riding and go karting for the more energetic.
In all it is a wonderful place to spend a completely relaxing and
enjoyable holiday, with the chance to try all the good fresh local produce
and sample the slower pace of French life.
